My story of success
started in April of 1996. I can remember it clearly - I
was sitting on a stationary bike in my local gym
watching the sunrise and reading Dance of Anger by
Harriott Learner. When something I was reading just
clicked - “you don’t have to take this anymore”. It was
like a light when on in my head. I am sure if I were to
read the book again I could pick out where in the book I
was reading at the time, but these words are still
ringing in my head this minute as I write this. And so
my pursuit for success had begun.
I already had a good start due to a year before making a
conscious effort to invest time in improving my health
and self-confidence. Hence, being at the gym when this
moment of enlightenment happened.
Within a year I had changed jobs for the 3rd time and
after a year of being open with my husband of how I was
feeling in the marriage and going to marriage counseling
I ended it after being together for 6 years.
I have never felt so free as the first day I came home
from work to my apartment alone. Don’t get me wrong, I
can remember the day I ended my marriage as clear as I
can see my toes. I will never forget the feeling of my
heart breaking in two, not for me but for the pain I was
causing to my husband, who never contemplated how
serious I really was about moving on with my life.
Since that day in the gym I decided to live by my new
motto, “life is too short to not be happy”. And I am
still living by that motto today.
My decisions now are based on making me happy, that is
probably why I have changed my career 6 times, and
worked for 5 different companies.
As I write this, I think it might come across sounding
very selfish. It may be that I am selfish, but I believe
that sometimes it is necessary. By doing so, it allowed
me to put in the necessary time to become a better
person, friend, and companion to everyone I meet. I
treat everyone I meet the way I would like to be
treated. As Dr. Phil would say you teach people how to
treat you. So I try very hard to teach only good
lessons.
I can guarantee you that this was not always the case, I
found my childhood difficult and challenging to say the
least. I will not go into all the gory details except to
point out that I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was
8. I don’t really remember reading everything backwards,
but I do remember how much I hated to read. In school,
because of my dyslexia I was labeled by the school as
having a learning disability. Which I hated and rebelled
against every chance I got. During those years I worked
with a tutor who was a mother of a neighborhood friend,
whom I want to thank for making those sessions fun and
for not making me feel like I was never good enough. Now
I cannot be found without a book around me.

Enough of the past, I am making conscious efforts to put
the past behind me. It helped make me who I am today,
but today I also make my choices to decide who I am
going to be tomorrow.
Today I am happier than I ever could of imagined. I have
a wonderful husband, and we spend our time in the most
beautiful scenery. For now we live both in the city and
the country but if our future holds true to our country
roots, we will be living in the country full time one
day soon (ACTUALLY WE NOW DO!).
As you can see, my definition of success is
every changing, as is our lives. As we reach the goals
we set for ourselves our confidence grows and so does
our future.
Life is full of rewarding experiences
waiting to happen, you just have to be
open to the
possibility.
Which brings me to why I am writing this? I wrote this
to help explain that success comes in different forms.
In my pursuit of success I have tried everything from
accounting to interior design. Now I feel like life has
prepared me for a career as a Success Strategist because
of my ability to listen to what is behind the words, my
courage to experiment with life, and my determination to
make my life full of meaningful memories. I want to help
everyone find their meaning of success and fill their
life with memories to remember.
I love people, I love to watch people learn and achieve
the impossible. Because of my work with many different
industries and many different jobs, I can jump in and
out of roles easily. I can pick up what is missing in a
very short amount of time and come up with strategies to
implement what is missing even quicker.
Life to me is an
adventure and I look forward to what waits for me around
every corner. If I can get to this point from starting
out labeled as an “underachiever”, imagine what you can
do!
If you want to know what success looks like, feels like,
and tastes like, let me help show you a life more
fulfilling and rewarding than you could have ever
imagined. Dream big and you will be big.
